FreshMinds

Some examples of our work

Flexible work. Stimulating challenges.
Will studied English at Oxford University. He came to FreshMinds after finishing drama school in 2005. As an actor, he needed to find freelance work that was flexible but was also keen to find a job that used his brain.

Will works at FreshMinds whenever he's between acting jobs, and loves the fact that he's always welcome to return to a challenging freelance job in a dynamic and friendly atmosphere. Will 's worked on a huge range of projects over the past year or so. One of his first tasks, for a pharmaceutical company, was to plot the passage of new medications through the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) - a job that required him to become an overnight expert in pharmaceutical procedure! He has also worked extensively for various public-service adult-learning bodies, and most recently he helped write a report on the future of wind energy. Will's work with FreshMinds has taken him into the boardrooms of top-notch City firms, as well as the staff changing room of a Home Counties supermarket (he had a good reason to be there). Each job has been different, but never less than stimulating.

Temporary work. Career development included.
Dexter heard about FreshMinds through a friend who was working with us at the time. He joined us as a Mind with a first-class degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and an MSc in Biology from Oxford University. When Dexter came to us he was still working out which direction he wanted his career to take. So to help him on his way, we embarked on finding him stimulating temporary placements that would boost his confidence as well as his CV.

Since becoming a Mind at FreshMinds Dexter has worked on a variety of projects. Each one has enabled him to develop new skills and industry knowledge. One placement, with a top three brand consultancy, involved researching, reporting and presenting on products claiming to be ‘green’. He then went on to undertake two assignments with a small and friendly team within an influential brand strategy consultancy. His first project with them involved quantitative analysis of consumer research and aimed to determine how best to market a hugely successful brand and its related products in West Africa. The second project involved a mix of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on behalf of a major pharmaceutical company. The aim was to help them re-brand their key ‘over the counter’ products by generating a set of situation analyses.

It was during this placement that Dexter established an interest in strategy consulting. The work provided insight into the importance of how products are branded and marketed. He also gained an understanding of how strategic consultancies operate. And on the back of this we were quickly able to help Dexter get his first permanent job as a Strategy Analyst with a major player in the transport industry. As part of the strategy team, Dexter provides in-depth analysis, insight and advice enabling informed and strategic business decisions. So although a recent graduate, Dexter is already enjoying the responsibility of directly influencing the company’s development.
